STEP 2: Either draw or print your image on a piece of regular size printer paper. Try to make it big enough that when you retrace it onto your "transparency" with a permanent marker the details won't be too small.
I used Ninjago characters for my nephew's room. |
STEP 3: Place your image inside a large clear ziploc bag and trace the image onto the bag with a permanent marker. I found a whole box of ziploc bags at the $1 Store and they were perfect because they didn't have any markings on them.
You should be able to fit four characters per bag-- two on each side. |
Taa-daa! Super cheap transparency film! |
STEP 4: Tape your transparency to the projector and place the projector on something about waist height that is stable. Turn your projector on and adjust it to get the image where you want it on the wall. I recommend tracing the entire image in pencil onto the wall at this point just in case the projector gets bumped later on.
I forgot to take a pic of me tracing Cole in pencil but this gives you the basic idea about positioning the image. |
STEP 5: I used acrylic paints to fill in the penciled on shapes. Using a higher quality brush made it go a lot quicker. Fill in everything but wait until the end to do the outlines after the rest of the paint has dried. If the image is black (like the ninja above) use white paint to add outline details.
STEP 6: Go back and touch up around the edges with the original wall color.
If you want a background behind your character, paint that first and give it plenty of time to dry before tracing your character on the wall.
You can just barely see the pencil tracing of Simba to the right of the sun. |
This is AWESOME! You are really talented.
ReplyDeleteUsing the projector is a wise idea. Just be careful with its position and make sure that it doesn’t move so that it won’t feel awkward when you draw. Anyway, your work is lovely. And I like Simba!
